Marlins English Language Test for Cruise Ship Staff

The Marlins online English Language Test Centre was launched in July 2007, replacing the original CD-based testing system. Since then more than 82,000 seafarers and 50,000 Cruise Ship staff have taken our tests in 145 countries. Employers worldwide rely on the test as an objective means of seafarer assessment. It is also recognised by the ISF, UK MCA and Irish Maritime Authority as evidence of English language competency for seafarers.

To ensure continued security of the test database, Marlins is committed to periodic upgrades of both the test content and the Test Centre administrative system. This helps protect our clients against unauthorised use and also ensures the product is up-to-date.

Marlins have already implemented many upgrades to the test administrative system with no charge to our clients.

What will the cost be?
There is a small increase in the price, the first increase since 2007. From 14th February 2011 the Marlins English Language Test for Cruise will increase from $10 USD to $12 USD per test. This continues to represent excellent value.

Discounts for bulk purchases will continue to be available on the following revised basis:

1000 to 1999 tests - USD11 per test
2000 to 2999 tests - USD10.5 per test
3000 to 3999 tests - USD10 per test
Over 4000 tests - USD9.5 per test

Can we pre-purchase tests before the price rise?
Yes. It is possible to bulk buy tests at the current rates of $10 USD per test (with current discounts for orders of over 1000 tests) up to 13th February 2010.

What is the period of validity of the current version of the test?
Tests which you currently have in your account will remain valid until you have used them. If you opt to pre-purchase additional tests before the price increase, the tests you buy at the current rate will not expire.

Does the upgrade affect Marlins Approved Test Centres?
The information above applies to all users. There are no special or additional requirements for Marlins Approved Test Centres.
